II. Setting Up Lync 2010
Different options can be set to fit the need for your Lync 2010. In the following, we will look further into a variety of ways to set your options to increase productivity at work and in personal life.
i. Start Lync automatically
1. In order to automatically open Lync as your windows starting, click on the Options icon on your Lync window.
2. From the Lync Options, go to [Personal] -> [My Account] -> check the box next to [Automatically start Lync when I log on to Windows]. Press OK when finished.
ii. Setting up your profile picture
1. [Go to Lync Options] -> [My Pictures] -> [Show a picture from a web address].
2. In order to display a picture on Lync 2010, you need to put in a picture that contains a web address such as Facebook or Windows Live. Copy the URL and paste in the space given. The picture needs to be in between 1 inch – 3 inches (2.5 cm ~ 7.5 cm)
3. Once it is done, connect to the picture and press Okay when the picture has been uploaded.
iii. Do not show Picture
1. To not show picture, go to [Lync Option] -> [My Pictures] and select [Do not show my Picture].

2. If you wish to not see the photos of your contacts, go to [Lync Options] -> [My Pictures] -> and unmark [Show photos of my contacts]
iv. Alternating Background color for messages in the conversation
1. Go to Lync [Options] -> [General] -> [Instant Messages] -> Check the box for ‘Show an alternating background color for messages in the conversation’
This allows recipient’s conversation to have a different background color to better distinguish from your own conversation.
v. Setting Alerts
1. Go to Lync [Options] -> [Alerts] -> [General Alerts] check the box for ‘Notify me when someone adds me to his or her contact list’.
In this section you can also set alerts on whether to be disturbed or not when your status is set to ‘Do not Disturb’.
vi. Language
1. In case you want to change the language on Lync, go to Lync [Options] -> [General] -> [Language]. Choose Language and press ‘OK when finished.
vii. File Saving
You can view the location of where the File Transfer documents and Lync Recordings are saved to. You can also specify the location by pressing [Browse].
